February 2025 Fishing Report: Awesome Month, We're Excited for March!
We wrapped up February on the South Holston and Watauga Rivers with fantastic fishing! Our team spent days on both rivers, landing plenty of fish, including some impressive big ones. We were blessed with beautiful weather this week, with mornings in the 30s and afternoons reaching the 60s. March 1-8 is showing similar weather patterns, and we should be in for a great week of fly fishing!

TVA's continued generation on the South Holston and Watauga means limited wade fishing on the main rivers. Freestone streams in the surrounding mountains offer wade options. Expect high flows through March, creating excellent streamer and nymph fishing opportunities. Local creeks and streams are also fishing well for those opting out of float trips.

On the South Holston, egg, worm, and BWO nymph patterns are still doing the trick, with the upper six miles fishing particularly well. We've spotted some BWO dries, but topwater action is still a bit slow. Over on the Watauga, nymphing was on fire this week! Egg patterns are still working in the upper two miles, but their effectiveness decreases as you move downstream. We suggest leading your nymph rig with an egg to draw fish to your dropper. Small soft hackle nymphs, mimicking BWO or caddis pupae, are the real stars. Streamers are also producing, especially for those targeting big browns. We're really looking forward to March, and we think it's shaping up to be a fantastic month!
Expect continued dam generation into March, meaning limited wade fishing on the main rivers. But don't let that stop you! We're running fantastic float trips. Want to join us? Call 423-946-6665 to book your guide today.
