Spawning Sections Reopen on the South Holston – Fishing Report
The long-anticipated reopening of the spawning sections on the South Holston River did not disappoint! With water temperatures stabilizing and flows ideal for floating, we took full advantage of the fantastic conditions.
Fishing was excellent, producing a healthy mix of brown and rainbow trout throughout the day. The trout were eager to feed, and we had steady action using a combination of egg patterns, size #20 Blue-Winged Olive (BWO) nymphs, and #20 scuds. These patterns proved especially effective in the deeper runs and along gravel beds where fish were actively feeding.
Adding to the experience, the weather was perfect, with temperatures reaching the 60s—ideal for both the fish and the anglers. With the spawning sections now open, it’s a great time to get on the water and take advantage of the prime conditions.
If you’re planning a trip, be sure to have a selection of small BWOs and scuds in your fly box, and don’t overlook the effectiveness of egg patterns, as they continue to produce well. Tight lines!
